Freeman Studio, Sentinel Series The Sentinel Series presents a collection of medium-scale ceramic and mixed media luminaries where the human form is constructed with intention, balance, and quiet control. Each figure is assembled in a uniform structure, suggesting stability, order, and an inner sense of alignment. These bodies appear composed and resolved, with surfaces and forms that feel deliberate and steady. There is a sense of wholeness within the figure itself, as if the internal foundation has been carefully built and maintained. The human presence in each piece feels grounded, centered, and aware. In contrast, the surrounding structures and outer atmospheres tell a different story. Encasing or supporting each figure are elements that feel fractured, burned, or worn by hardship. The external forms carry evidence of disruption through charred textures, broken edges, and layered surfaces that suggest time, pressure, and adversity. This tension between the composed body and the distressed exterior creates a powerful visual and emotional dialogue. Light emerges from within the figure and moves outward, interacting with these damaged surroundings. As illumination passes through cracks, openings, and scorched surfaces, it transforms the broken exterior into something active and alive. The hardship is not hidden, but it is not without beauty.
